Rachel Rossiter

Senior Lecturer | University of Newcastle

Intent to improve the lives of others, Rachel C. Rossiter began her career in health care as a registered nurse. For years, she worked with patients suffering from chronic diseases and mental health issues. Inspired by her patients, she went back to school to obtain a Bachelor of Counseling and Master of Counseling, a Master of Nursing in nurse practitioner studies, and a doctorate in health science from the University of Sydney. Currently, Dr. Rossiter serves as a senior lecturer for the University of Newcastle, for the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Faculty of Health. Her daily responsibilities include teaching the Master of Nursing (Advanced Practice), Master of Mental Health Nursing (Nurse Practitioner), and the Master of Mental Health Nursing courses. Her focus is on mental health within primary care, general practice in holistic management of patients, and assurance of effective mental health assessments. Dr. Rossiter oversees all curriculum, planning, education, and development for the department. As a Fellow of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and a trainer of nurse practitioners, she feels her years of success can most aptly be attributed to good mentors and her personal drive. Within the next five years, Dr. Rossiter plans to assure the success of the new nurse practitioner program at the University of Newcastle, and begin consulting within her field.
